Jordan Peele has done it again with confusing the hell out of us! But this time fans are in a freenzy trying to put pieces on the message Jordan Peele has gave us in the movie “Us”. Jordan Peele first movie “Get Out” was a great movie that won him a Oscar in 2018 for being Best Original Screenplay and 98% on Rotton Tomatoes. Get Out was a metaphorical movie that discussed the racism, discrimination, and kidnapping that goes on in the black community around the world. His creativity raved fans throughout social media trying to get a better understanding on the messages that he placed in the movie.
Jordan Peele new released movie "Us" gives a different message and this time it relates to society, now after watching the movie I was beyond confused. So after surfing twitter right after to get a better explanation on the movie here are a few of my interpretations on what I thought the movie was messaging.
First lets get into who the double family represents
The Tethers are the family in the movie that had the encounter with their doubles at the front of their house in Santa Cruz, California. The double family represents The Tethers inner selves, or in other words their other half or bad side. In the movie they are seeking revenge and each family member are trying to kill the other. In the movie when Winston Duke, played by Gabe Wilson asked “who are you people?” Adelaide played by Lupita Nyong'o double responded "we are Americans”.
The Americans can be a message with how people ignore their inner souls in order to fit in societies norms. In the movie the “Americans are fed up with being ignored and neglected. If you are a believer that the body is a cavity to the inner soul then you will understand where I am coming from in this analogy.
The Rabbit
The rabbit is shown in the movie a lot. In the movie when Adelaide explained her story of being trapped In the other world where the Americans are kept, she exposed her having to eat rabbit flesh when the real Adelaide ate real food. The rabbit shown in the tunnel represented the main food source that the “Americans” had to eat. The use of the rabbit was the ability for them to reproduce quickly so food for the doubles did not go scarce.
I hope I have informed you on some questions you may have had after watching the movie. After viewing the movie I will definitely give it a 10/10 and I can not wait to see what else Jordan Peele has in store for us next year, so far he has not disappointed.
